In Montgomery County and nationwide, restrictions intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have left many residents feeling isolated, anxious, and stressed. Individuals focused on protecting or improving their physical health now must also reinforce their emotional and mental health. AAHP understands the unique challenges so many are facing at this time, so we warmly invite participation in our online offerings which provide opportunities for social interaction as well as education, guidance, and support towards living a healthier life.
AAHP’s Chronic Disease Management classes, previously held at White Oak Recreation Center, Germantown Library, and Plum Gar Recreation Center, are now held on zoom on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The fun and interactive curriculum instructs participants on how to prevent and manage chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, cancer, Alzheimer’s and more. Taught by Dr. Ikenna Myers, a Certified Diabetes Educator, and Robina Barlow, a Food for Life instructor, AAHP’s Chronic Disease Management class covers nutrition, grocery shopping, cooking, exercise, medications—all online from your own home. Because it’s important for pregnant women to know they are not alone, AAHP is hosting Wellness Wednesdays during the month of May. AAHP’s SMILE nurses and social workers and AAHP’s community of moms are united in providing camaraderie and support to ease the stresses of pregnancy as well as the added stress of pregnancy during a pandemic. Discussion topics include the importance of family and how we can join forces in keeping our families safe and strong during these challenging times. Wellness Wednesdays are held from 1:00pm - 1:30pm. RSVP by calling (240) 777-1833 or emailing email@example.com.
Fellowshipping virtually is still fellowship and health education can be just as accessible. AAHP continues to support the health of Black Montgomery County residents and encourages everyone to join us, and join together in building up our healthy and immune systems as well as our spirits.
