AAHP's Diabetes Prevention Program Takes Off

AAHP now offers a Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) modeled after the CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP). Led by AAHP's clinical director, Dr. Nkossi Dambita, this 16-week curriculum focuses on healthy eating and physical activity to help participants make choices that prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes.  AAHP's DPP is ideal for individuals who are at risk of getting diabetes, including people with high blood sugar or glucose and women who have had gestational diabetes.

Evidence shows that people with prediabetes who take part in diabetes prevention programs can cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58% (71% for people over 60 years old). AAHP's DPP is set to play a critical role in addressing the disproportionate impact of diabetes on African Americans in Montgomery County.
