AAHP to Host In It to Win It at Historic Odd Fellows Sandy Spring Lodge

The next In It to Win It forum will take place inside the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows Sandy Spring Lodge #6430, a meeting hall established in 1909 by formerly enslaved residents that has long anchored civic life in Sandy Spring, Maryland. On Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM (ET), the lodge’s wood‑beamed sanctuary will once again serve its original purpose: bringing neighbors together to advance the well‑being of the Black community. Against this historic backdrop, the African American Health Program’s (AAHP) clinical director, Nkossi Dambita, MD, MPH, MS, and Policy & Strategy Officer for Montgomery County Public Health Services Christopher Rogers, PhD, will discuss the hard numbers behind prostate cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and mental health stressors that still claim Black men’s lives disproportionately. Topics of discussion will include health screenings, chronic disease prevention, and emotional resilience, just to name a few.

Whether you attend in person at Odd Fellows Sandy Spring Lodge #6430 or join via Zoom (register at aahpmoco.org/inittowinit), you’ll leave with guidance that can help you and the Black men in your life achieve better mental and physical health. The evening will feature health screenings, an interactive Q&A, on‑site resource tables, and opportunities to learn about and enroll in AAHP’s programs and services so you can walk away with concrete plans and contacts that immediately benefit you or the Black men in your life.

The momentum continues next month: the following In It to Win It session is set for Thursday, May 16, 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Mark your calendar now and stay tuned for registration details. Every conversation brings us one step closer to healthier, longer lives for Black men across Montgomery County.
