Cheers to New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions can be detrimental to mental health because the pressure of unmet goals can give individuals an overwhelming sense of anxiety, self-doubt, and feelings of failure. New Year’s resolutions are great in theory and healthy when realistic, however we tend to overexert ourselves to reach ambitious New Year’s resolutions and feel as though we have failed, if we do not reach the goals by the end of the year. It is like chasing perfectionism.

Montgomery County Providing Free Rapid COVID-19 Test Kits

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will begin offering free COVID-19 home testing kits starting Monday, January 10 in an effort to make the test more accessible to County residents. A limited number of iHealth COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Kits will be provided on a first come, first served basis until supplies run out. A maximum of two test kits (each containing two tests) will be given per visit.

Stand Up to Reduce Your Risk for Type 2 Diabetes

Recent research indicates that increasing time spent standing may help reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes in sedentary adults. A recent study using accelerometers (which measure mobility) to monitored 64 inactive patients aged 40 to 65 for an average of about 14.5 hours each day for four days. The research discovered that those who stood more often had improved insulin sensitivity.
