Health and Wellness Education and Guidance

CDMP CLASSES
 

AAHP’s chronic disease classes provide information and resources on how to prevent and manage diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s and dementia by focusing on proper nutrition, weight loss, and other critical health matters. Upon signing up, participants will receive a weekly link to join the class. Options are as follows:

  • Tuesdays – focus on health and fitness, 11am – 12pm
  • Wednesdays, 6pm to 7:15pm
  • Thursdays – focus on health and nutrition, 1pm – 2pm
  • Thursdays, 6pm to 7:15pm

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT SUPPORT
 

AAHP’s Weight Management Program provides individualized health coaching for County residents who are ready to take the necessary steps to lose five pounds or more. Participants will benefit from weekly 20-30 minute phone conversations to review the principles of weight management, set goals, and plan strategies to overcome barriers that hinder weight loss.

Mental Wellness and Emotional Resiliency

Mental health resources from Everymind.org provide phone, text, and chat support to help manage COVID-19-related anxiety and depression.
 
Well Connected is a telephone and online community made up of participants, staff, facilitators, presenters, and other volunteers who care about each other and who value feeling connected.
 

Therapy for Black Girls – A resource to find trusted, culturally competent therapists for Black women

Black Physicians and Healthcare Network – Provides critical health and wellness services, including mental health support services for Black Montgomery County Residents. Three free mental health visits are offered.

Housing and Financial Assistance

The Washington Area Fuel Fund, a partnership between the Washington Gas Company and The Salvation Army has funds to help eligible residents with their utility bills. Click here to learn more.

The Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP) provides bill assistance to low-income households in the State of Maryland to make their energy costs more affordable and to help with the prevention of loss and the restoration of home energy service. Learn more here.

The Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program or SNAP(formerly known as the Food Stamp Program) provides monthly financial benefits to eligible households to supplement their food purchase budget. Learn more here.
The COVID-19 Rent Relief Program provides short-term rental assistance to eligible households who have experienced lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused them to fall behind on their rent. Households who previously received rental assistance are eligible to apply. Click here to learn more.

The Early Care and Education Initiative provides funding for school age child care for children in low income families where parents need to work while children should be engaged in virtual learning. Learn more and apply here.

Clinical Trials for Behavioral and Mental Health – The University of Maryland Medical Center conducts different psychiatry research studies to learn more about the treatment of several conditions, including but not limited to: treating people trying to reduce or stop drinking or drug use, schizophrenia, or other serious mental health disorders
